About us HAQ was founded in 1996 to represent and protect the interests of Hypnotherapists in Queensland at a time when the profession was under threat from being taken over by third party professional boards.
It was never intended to replace existing Professional Associations or Training Schools. Its role has always been to co-ordinate the activities of the profession and to provide a forum for these all important stakeholders. We successfully represented the profession of Clinical Hypnotherapy to the Queensland Government when the monopolistic provisions of the old Psychologist's Act were being reviewed by the Government's Legislative Review Committee. As a result the profession of Hypnotherapy is recognised in its own right and self regulated. Since then we have continued to negotiate with Associations and Schools in the other States to form a National Australian Peak Body. In 2007, following a national conference in Melbourne, attended by representatives from all States, a Committee was formed to prepare the ground for the formation and incorporation of a national body called The Hypnotherapy Council of Australia (HCA). We joined a sister representative association, the Council of Clinical Hypnotherapists(CCH) in 2010. With the formation and incorporation of HCA, CCH has been disbanded. In July 2010 the proposed HCA constitution was approved at a national conference held in Sydney. In June 2011, at the Brisbane national conference, HCA formally came into being as a legal entity and the newly elected Board made the decision to incorporate HCA federally. The representative of CCH then announced that the CCH would be disbanded, its role having been assumed by the HCA.
